John W. "Jay" Taylor, Jr., CCIM, serves as Managing Director and principal of SVN Tar Heel Commercial Realty, Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to re-affiliating with SVN in 2012, Taylor served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Tar Heel Companies of North Carolina. From 2005-2009 Taylor served as Senior Advisor for Sperry Van Ness Commercial Realtors specializing in the brokerage of land, office and investment property in Raleigh, Wake County and the Triangle area in North Carolina. With over 20 years of commercial real estate experience, Taylor has facilitated well over 200 sales and lease transactions with total volume valued in excess of $400 million. He is annually recognized as one of the top producing brokers in the SVN franchise system nationally.
His areas of expertise include: brokerage of income producing investment properties, brokerage of owner occupied commercial real estate, brokerage of raw land, real estate portfolio management, and development of office and flex projects.
Representative transactions include: structuring the joint venture sale of a four-apartment portfolio in Wilmington, N.C., for $33.5 million; sale of an apartment complex in Fayetteville, NC for $11.8 million; sale of apartment portfolio in Raleigh, N.C., for $12.5 million; sale of Greenbrier Apartments in Garner, N.C., for $12.4 million; sale of multiple single tenant net leased assets ranging from $1.5-$10 million; assembling an investment group to buy a vacant office property, re-tenanting and selling for $3.6 million; planning, development and sale of the Western Professional Center office condominium project valued at over $4 million; sale of Homestead Village mobile home community for $3.75 million.
As an active member of the commercial real estate community in North Carolina, Taylor holds the prestigious Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Designation and served as the president of the NC-CCIM Chapter in 2015; is a member of the National Association of Realtors, North Carolina Association of Realtors and Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors; is an active member of the Urban Land Institute, where he served on the Triangle roundtable committee from 2009-2012; and is a past member of the Realtor's Land Institute, where he has served on the NC-RLI Board of Directors for 2008-2009.
Taylor is also involved in his community, most notably through volunteer work for the YMCA of the Triangle, where he served as the Chair of the Advisory Board for the John M. Alexander YMCA, Chair for the Camp Sea Gull and Seafarer Advisory Board, and as Arapahoe Nation Chief for the Y Guides and Princesses program. He also serves on various fundraising and ad hoc committees for the YMCA. Other organization affiliations include serving as a member of the Trustees for Edenton Street United Methodist Church, President of the St. David's School Warrior Club and House Corp chair for the NC Alpha Chapter of SAE fraternity at NC State.
Taylor earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Business minor from North Carolina State University. In addition, he holds a North Carolina General Contractor's License.
